Of Course Jon Has Something to Say – Daylight Savings Time & Kids

When I was young Daylight Savings Time was cool on both ends. When it started it marked the beginning of later nights, longer afternoon bike rides, and sunlight until 9:00 or even later. The end of Daylight Savings meant one more hour of sleep that day… that’s pretty much the extent of the good parts.
Now with kids…
If you are a parent, you know that the clock is important because of all the different things we do in the day. Rowen has a clock in his room and he knows when it is morning. Sunlight is tricky to base time on sometimes with the whole cloud thing and rotation of the earth.
It is easier for adults to wake up in the dark and look at a clock to help realize the time is not well represented due to the weather. Black out shades are another little game people play to keep the day from starting too soon. If you need complete darkness, blackout shades are the way to go.
What’s my point?
Nothing earth shattering, just my feeling about this morning. It went from totally cool to totally blah. My extra hour of sleep is just a concept since kids, and the extra hour on the clock creates the task of straightening out that hour we gained. I used to sleep it away and now I parent it into the day.
Plus that one more hour I have to wait for the Ravens’ game is no fun. Thanks for reading… I’m over it now.
